La forma más básica del proceso consiste en tomar una muñeca de vinilo, añadir muchas capas de pintura que es necesario secarla al calor, con un horno especial, este calor sirve para sellar la pintura. Después se le coloca a mano el cabello uno a uno con una aguja muy fina especialmente creada para "rooting" y de cierta manera que al peinarlo simule el remolino de cabello que se forma en la cabeza, al terminar se fija el cabello y se le hace un corte. Además se le pegan o insertan las pestañas y si el muñeco lleva ojos abiertos, también deben ser colocados.Al terminar este proceso, no hay más que armar el muñeco. Cada extremidad se llena de un relleno especial para darle peso, más un relleno suave que lo cubra. Así los brazos y las piernas se vuelven pesados y el torso también pero suave a la vez, la cabeza del bebé se balanceará por el peso que lleva, así que deberá sostenérsele haciendo alusión a un recién nacido, de manera que al llevarlo en brazos, se obtenga la sensación de cargar a un bebé real.
